You can see the texture of the eyes... 1/256 that is a fast shutter speed. Did you have to be as fast with actually pushing the button or did it hang out there for a while to win the contest?
As for the 1/256 shutter, well, it's necessary to say the least. The lens I used allows 1:1 to 5:1 magnification. From 2x mag. on every single movement of the subject or of yourself is noticeable. This was taken at 3x. Plus, I used a macro flash... so the 1/256 are kind of standard.
I just know enough to sound like I know a lot more.
